STRAWBERRY
Originating in the Alps, strawberries are one of the world's most popular fruits. While the biggest producers are in North America and the Mediterranean, only García Mateo & Sinova and its partners have been able to produce large, high quality, intensely coloured strawberries in Peru.
We supply fresh strawberries to all our clients and chains from September to December, including Christmas.
REASONS TO EAT IT
- Strawberries are a powerful antioxidant and prevent arteriosclerosis (cholesterol deposits in the arteries).
- Strawberries have a very high fibre content and a mild laxative effect.
- They are an excellent food for people suffering from rheumatism or gout, or who have had a heart attack.
VARIETIES
The best-known strawberry varieties around the world are produced by the University of California: San Andreas, Albion and Aromas.
PACKAGING FORMATS
We sell our strawberries in 1, 2 and 4 kilo boxes. A 2 kilo box contains 8 punnets of 250 gr, and the 4 kilo box holds 8 punnets of 500 gr each. 1 and 2 kilo boxes are also sold in bulk.

Strawberries have a very high vitamin C and folic acid content. Their mineral content includes iron, calcium, iodine, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. values per 100 gr Calories 30 kcal. Carbohydrates 7 gr. Calcium 14 mg. Vitamin C 20 mg. Protein 0.6 gr. Fibre 2.3 gr. Iron 0,4 mg. Cholesterol 0 mg.
Strawberries get their colour from natural pigments called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are powerful antioxidants, helping to protect your health.
ORIGIN AND CHARACTERISTICS
Wild strawberries originated in Europe. In the Middle Ages they were thought to have various medicinal properties to treat throat infections, fever and renal problems. Strawberries were first cultivated in France in the 15th century, but large-scale production would not be possible until the 20th century.
Strawberries are a fruit from the Rosaceae family and the genus Fragaria. The skin of the small fruit is bright red and seed-bearing, while the flesh is pink and fragrant.
STORAGE AND CONSUMPTION RECOMMENDATIONS
Strawberries keep very well in the refrigerator. Ideal temperature: 0º to 0.5º C. Relative humidity: 90 - 95%.
They are best eaten within 6 days of purchase.
They can be eaten raw or used in various dishes or drinks: with sugar, with orange juice, in milkshakes, in jam or decorating all types of desserts.
